Facebook Graph Search

This is the first attempt by Kuriachira.com team in addressing the technology aspects – which can be of interest to citizens – especially the youth – of Kuriachira. After launching News Feed and Timeline features, today, with the introduction of Graph search,  Facebook has announced  their latest attempt on tackling one of the main concerns of their investor community- “How to monetize the contents posted by their social platform users?”.  Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a truly cool way to search the vast universe of  Facebook content using natural language and it seems the possibilities are limitless; and as Mr.Zuckerberg hinted, there is a potential for Facebook to generate revenue from this initiative in the not-so-distant future.

Though it is in its nascent form, this new search tool looks very promising. With this, we are actually given a way to learn more about the interests of our friends than what our friends would otherwise be willing to share with us.  For example, we can find all of our friends who have expressed interest in a particular restaurant just by doing a graph search or we can do a search to find all friends who are living in a particular town. In tech language- this tool is a Beta release- meaning, its a work in progress; as more users provide them with their valuable inputs, we can expect this to go mainstream. Todays release only touches four aspects – People, Photos, Places & Interests.  So technically, now  its possible for us to find all of our friends, who have visited San Francisco and had taken photos at Golden Gate Bridge.

Here’s a YouTube video about Facebook Graph Search.

Church Festival- Ambu Perunaal

st.sebastian-ambu-perunaal-kuriachira-2013

Kuriachira is undoubtedly one of the most vibrant towns in our state. Every year in January- actually on the Sunday after the 10th of Jan, we celebrate the feast of St. Sebastian, who is a much celebrated Martyr who had given his life in his effort to uphold his faith in Jesus Christ. This year, Kuriachira parish and everyone in this town are celebrating this religious festival on Jan 12, 13 and 14. You can find more information on this festival on the official church website- www.kuriachirachurch.com

For the citizens of Kuriachira, it is our famous “Ambu Perunaal”. During this festival days church is decorated with millions of tiny light bulbs – which are generally spread all over the church roof as well as on her circular walls- which gives the church a huge Tent-Like feel.

In addition to the decorations done on our church, every house in the town competes with their neighbors in making sure that their house is lit better than the rest.

A few other things, which are coming to my mind include the fireworks and the giant Pandal- a large temporary structure created to announce the grandiose festival. Both on Saturday and Sunday nights,  processions holding the statue of St. Sebastian with those golden arrows “- generally called as “Ambu”  are held in each “Unit” or street. As part of this procession, this ” Ambu”  is brought to every member home of the respective “unit” and people celebrate “Ambu” entrance with crackers and fireworks.  All these processions -”ambu pradakshinam”- will reach St.Joseph’s church Kuriachira; and after the final Ambu enters the church- church celebrates with a major fireworks, which is generally done around midnight on Sunday.

Kuriachira – The Best School Town

stjosephsmodelhighschool-kuriachira

Kuriachira is well known for her exceptional educational facilities- Institutions like St. Paul’s Convent English Medium School, St. Joseph Model High School, Mar Themotheous High School- MTHS and Pope John L.P. School etc. have nurtured the value of high quality education and the importance of discipline in the young minds of Kuriachira and helped Kuriachira become the “Intellectual Capital of Thrissur”.

Below-we have given a brief information about the most relevant educational institutions in our town.

Mar Themotheous High School- MTHS is the oldest school of this town. It was started as an L.P. School in the year 1926 and was later upgraded to a U.P. School in the year 1950 and became a fully functional High School y the year 1958.  As the town became more affluent and English medium education became a must for advancing through this fast moving world- the school is slowly becoming a lesser preferred alternative for most parents. Nevertheless, it would not be fair not to mention the names of some truly notable personalities of our town- who got their education through this once great institution.

Mar Themotheous High School - Kuriachira

Mar Themotheous High School – Kuriachira

MTHS is proud to associate with Mrs.Sara Joseph- The winner of Kerala Sahitya Academy Award and Vayalar Award for her novel “Aalahayude Penmakkal”. She is one of the leading feminist voice in Kerala and was the founder of “Manushi”- an organisation of thinking women.

Another notable personality associated to MTHS is Mr. N.O. Inasu- He had studied at MTHS and later became a lawyer and is now serving as the Counselor of Thrissur Municipal Corporation.

Yet another gem who had received his educational  foundation from this great learning center is Dr. Benny Jacob Chalakkal. Through hard work and dedication, this young man has climbed various rungs of the Department of Education ladder and is now serving as a high ranking senior official in the department.

St. Joseph’s Model Boys High School:  We were lucky to have the genius of Acharya J.C.Chiramel- who has pioneered the concept of Un-Aided school in the State of Kerala( Probably in All of India).  Acharya J.C.Chiramel -also known as “Chakkoru Mash”  among his close friends- is the founder of St. Joseph’s Model Boys High School – the first “UnAided” school in Kerala - wherein the schools are designed to function financially independent from the government. President  V.V.Giri  ( who was then the Governor of Kerala) had inaugurated this great institution in the year 1961.

St. Joseph's Model High School- Kuriachira

St. Joseph’s Model High School- Kuriachira

Acharya J.C.Chiramel stayed as the manager while his Son Fr. Antony Jees lead this great school as the head master. During their management this school remained as one of the very few High Schools in the state of Kerala churning out students at a 100% success rate. innumerable  students from this school later took various professions including Teachers & Professors, Specialized Doctors and Medical professionals, Engineers & Lawyers, Law Enforcement & Financial Professionals and highly successful celebrated business tycoons- many of them serving in the country and many others around the globe.

Since the death of  both Acharya and his son, the School was entrusted to the Archdiocese of Thrissur.  Find more information about this school at http://sjmsk.org/

St. Paul’s Convent English Medium School:

Excellence at its best- that is the only way to describe this great institution. This is also a privately managed Unaided school, which was opened in the year 1964 with only a hand full of students has now become a highly rated learning center of approximately 3000 students from Kindergarten through 12th grade (Plus 2) offering both Central board as well as Kerala State board syllabus to their students. Private schools have now become commonplace; but until the last decade, every parent from all across the state used to compete to get admission for their children in this reputed school.

The school is managed by [Congregation of Mother of Carmel] CMC Sisters of Nirmala Province, Thrissur. The school embodies the concept of “success through hard work and discipline” and  has become a model for many private school in the State of Kerala.

Like St. Joseph’s, this school is also a place where students are guaranteed success and more than likely the students from this institution ended up becoming professionals serving all walks of life. Please visit the related link- St. Paul’s Convent

Pope John L.P. School- Kuriachira:

This school is the brain child of another genius- Fr. Joseph Vadakkan, who had served Kuriachira St. Joseph Parish.  Fr. Vadakkkan  had  been the force behind  ’Pope John Nagar housing scheme for the poor’ - the first project of its kind in the State of Kerala. The School became an integral part of the residents of this once poor neighborhood. The Pope John Nagar has since evolved to become a flourishing housing development area.

This school is probably the only L.P. school in Kuriachira, which is receiving aid from the State Government.

Pope John LP School- Kuriachira

Pope John LP School- Kuriachira

I have to be honest- while researching about this school, the only dependable content which I found online was from a blogging site - www.jocalling.com.  I am impressed with the writing style of the blogger Mr. Joseph Thomas and I appreciate the way he spoke his mind about both this school as well as the other schools in our town.

Mr.Joseph is found to be an accomplished musician- techie; and the fact that, he is probably the most well known person in the Music blogosphere  shows that this school can boast about being the stepping stone in the life of many successful and accomplished professional. Mr. Joseph has also founded the first music podcasting site mpod.in along with blogswara.in .

Kuriachira St. Joseph’s Church

KuriachiraStJosephsChurchResized

St.Joseph’s Church- a Roman Catholic church- is the epicenter of everything happening in this intellectually brilliant town.  This divine place of worship was built on the land donated by Kattookaran W.Joseph through his “Will” in the year 1927 and his son Kattookaran Varu has provided the additional financial aid  to carry out the wishes of his father.  In the year 1931, the church became a reality for the Roman Catholic Christians.
